Mary’s song teaches us something vital about worship: Worship is not rooted in circumstance—it is rooted in trust.
Mary praises God not because life suddenly became easy, but because she understood who God is. She magnifies the Lord because He is mighty, holy, merciful, and faithful. She rejoices because God saw her in her lowliness and acted in grace.
Mary knew something we often forget: God’s greatness does not diminish us—it rescues us.
The proud rely on themselves and are scattered. The humble rely on God and are lifted.
Mary’s song reminds us that Christmas is not about human achievement. It is about divine mercy. God did not come because the world was strong, wise, or righteous—but because it was needy.
And in Jesus:
the hungry are filled
the sinner is forgiven
the humble are raised
the promises are kept
When Mary says, “My soul doth magnify the Lord,” she is saying:
“My life will make God look as great as He truly is.”
That is our calling too.
True peace, true joy, and true worship come when we trust God’s mercy, walk humbly before Him, and believe that His promises—fulfilled in Christ—are still sure today.
Closing Prayer:
“Lord, teach us to magnify You with our whole lives. Help us walk in humility, trust Your mercy, and rejoice in the salvation You have given us through Jesus. May our lives point others to Your greatness. Amen.”
