The term, “supernatural” first entered the language during the middle ages. The prefix, “super,” is from the Latin meaning above or beyond. Things supernatural are those that transcend the normal laws of nature. Today, the term is often used interchangeably with the word paranormal, but it is also used more broadly to refer to magic, the occult and general superstition.
Originally the term supernatural was a religious one. It was much more narrowly defined than it is today, referring principally to the way Christians viewed the world beyond the tangible one in which we live. It is in that sense that we use the term in these affirmations.
